From reliable information furnished to us as well as personal observations, we can positively affirm that there has been in the Colony a considerable though gradual increase in the traffic in women and girls for immoral purposes.
The increase has been going on for the last two years and it commenced soon after the abolition of the registration of brothels. We are of opinion that at the present moment the number of prostitutes residing in the so-called "brothels" amount to at least the figures given by Inspector Stanton in his report dated the 22nd January 1899. The increase is likely to go on.
